Historical Society of Lake Pleasant and Speculator By Anne Weaver

Sunday, July 06, 2014 - Updated: 4:59 PM

The Historical Society of Lake Pleasant and Speculator has already been very busy this year.

The inside of the Historical Museum has a new coat of paint as well as new displays, including Hunting Camps, A Woman's Work is Never Done, Rhinelander's and School Days.

Another new display is a Wall of Veterans. We are looking for pictures of any veterans from this area, whether a year-round resident or a summer resident. We would love to copy these pictures and put them up.

Some items that have already been donated this year are a pump organ from the Linch family, Hamilton Chequer's surveyor books from Bess Taft, a 1950 or '60s hand-drawn map of camps around Sacandaga Lake and Lake Pleasant from Joan Schaeffer, and pictures from the Alvah Slack family.

We are always looking for donations.

Programs the historical society is sponsoring this year include a Tour of Rhinelander's Tuesday, July 15; a presentation on Caning Chairs July 15 by Linda's Antiques and Collectables in Broadalbin; the Civil War Encampment Aug. 9-10; Gilmantown Tour Tuesday, Aug. 19; Apple Fest Sept. 27; and a Fish Mountain Cemetery Tour Oct. 25.

For more information call the museum at 548-4478 or Aaron Weaver at 548-8351.

The museum is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through September.
