Here we go again

Good news, bad news, what to write?

The weather is always there. This Adirondack fall season was the mildest in my memory. Good for the woodpiles.

Summer was good to us. The vegetable garden yielded peas, carrots, 100 pounds of nice potatoes and all the tomatoes I wanted in season.

Maple syrup sales were good. We all need food. Rustic furniture and pack baskets and my artwork were off. Poor economy?

Things picked up after Labor Day.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful that in spite of advanced age I can take my chainsaw and hard hat and fell trees for winter firewood.

With the 64th winter working for a living here oncoming, I’ve done what I can to get through it.

Bad news: No venison this fall.

Indians say, ‘Not there — no shoot ‘um.’

Coyotes from here to Maine have taken down the deer herds. Friends confirm this.

Generally, people don’t understand the economic impact, the loss due to the coyote infestation. There was a time I was paid bounty to control them, and we did.

The Adirondacks have always been a tough place to survive winter. Here we go again.
