INDIAN LAKE -- The Town of Indian Lake might turn the ski hill into a tubing hill.

Supervisor Brian Wells told the Town Board Thursday, Jan. 2, that he had received a call from Zach White at Titus Mountain Family Ski Center in Malone.

Wells said White called him after hearing the town would not be opening the ski hill this year. White is interested in the town's T-bar equipment, Wells said, and has a tubing system he would be willing to trade.

Wells suggested that before any action is taken it would be a good idea to hold a special meeting with town residents on the future of the ski hill.

The town did not open the ski hill this year due to budget constraints and lack of use in recent winters.

GROOMER BIDS

Parks and Recreation Department Head Bruce Wells recommended the town purchase a new PistenBully trail groomer from Mohawk Industrial Werks LLC, Saratoga Springs. He feels even though it is more money, the town would be getting the best machine out there.

Councilwoman Sally Stanton agreed because, she said, "We will be getting more trails soon and will need a machine that is going to last."

Two bids were received at the board's Dec. 27, 2013 meeting. One came from Mohawk Industrial, which bid $127,927. The second is from Mountain Grooming Equipment, Waitsfield, Vt. for $101,000.

The board unanimously approved the bid from Mohawk Industrial for a total of $147,687 with blade and drag.

TAX BILL ERRORS

Tax Collector Julie Clawson told the board the tax bills mailed out were incorrect. She said Hamilton County Real Property Tax Services is working to correct them and get them reprinted.

The board unanimously agreed to allow taxpayers to pay until Feb. 28 without penalty.

GETTING ORGANIZED

The board made the following appointments for 2014.

Attorney for the Town Mike Hill; Budget Officer Pam Howard; Registrar of Vital Statistics, Record Management Officer, Tax Collector and DEC Sports License Agent Julie Clawson; Deputy Clerk and Deputy Registrar Barbara Yedlowski; Dog Control Officer Timothy Clawson; Health Control Officer Dr. Daniel Way; and Town Historian Bill Zullo.

The official newspaper for legal publications is Hamilton County Express.

Regular Town Board monthly meetings will be the second Monday of each month unless it falls on a holiday, when it will be held Tuesday.

The next regular meeting of the board will be Monday, Jan. 13, starting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
