Construction way down in IL

By PETE KLEIN

Express News Staff

INDIAN LAKE - The Town of Indian Lake saw a steep downturn in money spent on construction in 2011 as compared to 2010.

Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer Meade Hutchins last week provided the Planning Board with copies of 2010 and 2011 building permit summaries and new housing units broken down by Adirondack Park Agency zoning districts.

The figures show a downturn in building from 2010 to 2011.

During 2010 one new housing unit was built in Hamlet, two in Moderate Intensity, three in Low Intensity and four in Rural land use areas. There were also two housing units replaced in Hamlet, one in Moderate Intensity and two in Low Intensity areas.

Total building permits issued in 2010 was 116, with a majority of these being additions, garages and decks. The total construction value for 2010 was $6,559,480.

No new housing units were built in 2011. One housing unit was replaced in Hamlet, two in Moderate Intensity and one in Rural land use areas.

Just 75 building permits were issued in 2011, the majority for additions, garages and decks. The total construction value for 2011 was $1,989,778, down $4,569,702 or 70 percent.

SUBDIVISION

The Burke’s Cottage subdivision remains in limbo, as neither William Burke nor his attorney, William H. Intemann Jr., were present Jan. 4 to discuss a solution to the problem created by the seeming inability of Burke and the property owners in his development achieving a driveway maintenance agreement.

With neither of the parties present, the board agreed not to discuss the matter until its February meeting.

Attorney for the Board Michael Hill did say Intemann has promised to respond by Jan. 16 on a covenant agreement the board proposed in December.

TRAINING

Without any old or new business before the board, there was a short discussion on taking online courses for planning board members that are offered by the New York State Department of State.

All agreed to sign up for the online course.

The Indian Lake Planning Board will next meet Wednes-day, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
