INDIAN LAKE - New Town of Indian Lake Supervisor Brian Wells appointed Councilman John Rathbun as his deputy supervisor when the Indian Lake Town Board held its organization meeting Monday, Jan. 2.

The deputy supervisor serves at the pleasure and in place of the supervisor when the supervisor is absent, and can perform all the duties of the supervisor except for voting on issues before the board.

Other organizational items include the following approvals: Budget Officer Pam Howard; Registrar of Vital Statistics, Tax Collector, Records Manage-ment Officer and state Department of Environmental Conservation Licenses Issuer Julie Clawson; Deputy Registrar and Deputy Clerk Kim Ameden; official newspaper Hamilton County Express; Attorney for the Town Michael Hill; Town Historian Bill Zullo; Health Control Officer Dr. Daniel Way; and Dog Control Officer Nathan Kullman.

The board will continue to hold regularly scheduled meetings the second Monday of each month, unless the date falls on a holiday. Then the meting will move to the second Tuesday.

Meetings start at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. The only exception is the meeting held once yearly in Blue Mt. Lake Fire Hall, Aug. 13 this year.

Council members Jack Valentine and Jane Locke were appointed to the Interview Committee; John Rathbun and Sally Stanton were appointed to the Bargaining Unit Committee.

The board agreed to support William “Bill” Murphy to both the Hamilton County and the North Country Regional workforce investment board.

In other business, Stanton expressed concern over the county seeking a 1 percent increase in its sales tax. Stanton asked for support to fight the proposed increase, but other board members expressed their belief the county needs to do something unless the state provides mandate relief.
