An early morning visitor

Tuesday, January 28, 2014 - Updated: 3:36 PM

Collie and Shirley Smith of Speculator had a surprise Monday, Jan. 27, when they let their dogs out soon after getting up. The wind had blown the door open, and a barred owl was inside their back porch, making him or herself quite at home on the wooden bar of a hanging chair. “He let Collie take him outside to let him go... very calmly. Collie kept talking to him the whole while. He didn't even try to bite Collie... he must have known he was being helped," Shirley Smith said. The owl glided away after being released.
