Two die in Indian Lake fire

INDIAN LAKE - An elderly couple, tentatively identified as Roy J. Tracey Sr., 76, and Anna M. Tracey, 71, died in an early morning fire that destroyed their mobile home at 197 Pratt Road here early Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Positive identification of the victims is pending further forensic examination.

Dr. Jungeun Lee performed the autopsies at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He ruled the immediate cause of death was smoke inhalation due to a house fire.

Hamilton County Coroner Donald Townsend ruled the manner of death as accidental.

According to State Police, Roy Tracey Jr., who lives across the road from his parents’ residence, reported the fire around 3:45 a.m. He spotted the fire and attempted a rescue but was kept out of the home by intense flames, troopers said.

The home collapsed amid heavy fire.

In addition to Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department responding to the fire one engine from Blue Mt. Lake Volunteer Fire Department was also on the scene and one engine and one tanker from Speculator Volunteer Fire Department were standing by at the Indian Lake station.

Investigators from the state Office of Fire Prevention and Control and State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation are working to determine a cause.
