Trail grant more than expected

LONG LAKE - There is good news for snowmobilers - and taxpayers - in Long Lake.

When the Long Lake Town Board met Wednesday, Jan. 25, it had to amend the town’s 2012 budget because of the receipt of $30,786 when only $17,000 was expected.

The money is from the state’s Snowmobile Trail Fund, administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

The money is reimbursement for snowmobile trail maintenance. It comes from snowmobile trail grant fees collected by the state Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of a snowmobile’s registration.

There was more good news on the snowmobile and budget front.

The board put $1,700 into this year’s budget expenditures in anticipation of the Lions Club requesting that amount to help it stage vintage snowmobile races. But when the request arrived it was for $1,000, not $1,700.

The board approved the request.

Supervisor Clark Seaman reported on a recent meeting with Barton and Loguidice Consulting Engineers, Syracuse, the engineering firm for the water project; Susan Kennedy from the NYS Department of Health; installer JD’s Pump & Drilling, Wevertown; and supplier General Controls Equipment, Charlotte, N.C.

Seaman said the meeting was held to determine and fix a problem with the variable frequency drives at the Bissell Pits pump station. It was decided, Seaman said, that the manufacturer would fix and fully warranty the VFDs, and they should be ready to install and start up by mid-February.

“I think we made good progress,” said Seaman.

OTHER BUSINESS

• The board approved an agreement with the Warren / Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging for the town to bus seniors and be reimbursed by the OFA.

• The board renewed its yearly agreement with Tri-Lakes Humane Society for services for strays.

• The board authorized the Parks and Recreation Department to advertise for an events coordinator position and schedule bed races for the Fourth of July.

• The board agreed to ask the Hamilton County Board of Ethics to act as its ethics board when needed.

The next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 8, starting at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
