SPECULATOR - Andrew Weaver is the new president of the Lake Pleasant Central School District Board of Education. He has been on the board since 2006.

Christopher Hayes, the previous president, officially resigned from the BOE Dec. 14, 2011. The board encourages everyone interested in filling the vacant school board seat to attend school board meetings.

Elections will be held in May. Hayes’ unexpired term ends June 30, 2015.

The BOE has approved continuing with the Home Run program created by Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth, Canaan, to help children at risk of entering the criminal justice system and their families.

Berkshire Farm is one of the places where youth are sent when courts decide placement outside the home is needed to help them avoid future problems with the law.

The idea behind the Home Run program is to avoid placing students outside the home whenever possible.

The program provides a qualified social worker on call around the clock year-round. The social worker visits students in school two to three days a week and is able to immediately respond when asked by either parents or child.

Kathy Trezise and Darrell Cook have been approved as substitute teachers, Kyle Atty as the 5th- and 6th-grade basketball coach, J.C. Parslow as a volunteer assistant, Jessica Retersdorf as a volunteer coach and Robert Kruggel as a substitute bus driver.

The BOE will next meet Wednesday, Feb. 8, starting at 6 p.m. at the school.
