LP truck repair runs into problems

LAKE PLEASANT - It was last September when Superintendent of Highways Leo Desrochers reported the 2006 International tandem truck could be out for repairs for several months as a result of an on-the-job tip-over accident in late August.

When the Lake Pleasant Town Board met Monday, March 13, it learned the truck has finally been repaired, but is not ready to be put back into service because some parts crucial for it to do all it is meant to do are missing, and need to be found and put back on.

No one was hurt in the accident but the stainless steel dump box had to be replaced and the frame straightened.

Short this important piece of equipment needed to plow roads this past winter and on other jobs, the town has been borrowing a truck from the Hamilton County Highway Department.

Commenting on the long wait for the truck, Supervisor Neil McGovern said he had thought it would be gone for just a couple of months, but Desrochers had thought it could take six months.

"I guess Leo's guess was closer than mine," McGovern said.

With Desrochers absent due to being both sick and on vacation, McGovern said the Highway Department intends to continue grooming trails as long as snow conditions warrant it.

The board approved new construction and addition permit fees suggested by Code Enforcement Officer Victoria Buyce.

Except for the following, all other permit fees will continue at the previous $15 flat rate.

New construction permits for up to 1,500 square feet will now cost $100; for 1,500 to 3,000 square feet $150; over 3,000 square feet $200.

Permits for additions of up to 250 square feet will be $50; 250 to 500 square feet $100; and over 500 square feet $150.

Buyce says the previous flat fee rate of $15 for everything did not cover all the costs incurred with the numbers of inspections required from foundation to final construction.

The board approved the recommendation made by the Lake Pleasant Public Library Board of Trustees to select engineer James F. Reis, owner of Enerondack Engineering and Design Services PLLC, Lake Pleasant, as the engineer on the construction phase of the library addition.

With this approval the library broad will now go forward with drawing up a contract.

-- The board proclaimed March 15 as Theresa Lavarnway Day, thanking her for her for her many years of service at the LP Senior Center. A plaque will be made to honor and recognize her years of service.

-- There was a moment of silence in memory of Jay Knapp, former town employee and volunteer fireman, who died March 11.

-- The town offices will be closed Good Friday, March 29.

The board will next meet Monday, April 1, starting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
