230 enter LP ice fishing contest

LAKE PLEASANT - The Speculator, Lake Pleasant, Piseco Fish and Game Club Inc. held its annual Ice Fishing Contest Feb. 23 on Lake Pleasant. It was a great success, with 230 participants.

Several raffles were held. Tom Boghosian won a $200 Gander Mountain gift card, Will Wilt won 10 30-packs of beer and Erik Mattice won the 50/50, going home with $394.

Awards for fish caught were based on length with weight used to break ties. The prizes for fish were as follows.

PERCH PRIZES

 Prizes for Perch were awarded every hour, $60 for first place and $40 for second place.

Hour 1: Shelby Lamanque 1.2 lbs. 13.5 inches and Bryan Edwards 1.5 lbs. 13 inches.

Hour 2: Daniel Drum 1.5 lbs., 13.13 inches and John Marsh 1.1 lbs., 12.75 inches.

Hour 3: Ray Brownell 1.2 lbs. 13 inches and Frank Edwards .14 lbs. 12 inches.

Hour 4: Dan Drum 1.7 lbs. 12.88 inches and Brittany Sykes 1.1 lbs. 12.75 inches.

Hour 5: Dan Drum 1.2 lbs. 13.25 inches and Chad Farber 1.1 lbs. 12.75 inches.

Hour 6: Josh Marsh 1.4 lbs. 13.75 inches and Jeff Hazzard .15 lbs. 12.63 inches.

Hour 7: John Marsh 1.5 lbs. 13.13 inches and Garrison DeRocker 1.2 lbs. 13.13 inches.

Hour 8: Leroy Poyfair 1.2 lbs. 13 inches and Josh Marsh 1.3 lbs. 12.25 inches.

Hour 9: Logan Hutchins 1.4 lbs. 13.13 inches and Ray Brownell 1 lb. 12.5 inches.

The $100 prize for Largest Perch of the Day went to Josh Marsh with 1.4 lbs. 13.75 inches.

TROUT

Ray Brownell caught the only trout of the day, a brown weighing 1.6 lbs. and measuring 15.75 inches. It won him $300.

PICKEREL

First place and $150, Frank Spooner 2.15 lbs. 25.25 inches; second place and $100 Dylan Allen 2.5 lbs. 24.25 inches; and third place and $50 George Bellen 2.9 lbs. 24 inches.

No walleye were caught.

The annual SLPF&G Ice Fishing Contest is held the last Saturday in February. It will be Feb. 22 in 2014.
