HOPE - Chad and Jean Gray of Northville are off to a successful first month as the new propitiators of the Alpine Grille, located across from the Sacandaga River on State Route 30 here.

The couple reopened the restaurant March 1, and had a busy month despite the off-season this time of year brings to the region.

"This has been awesome, the community is very supportive," Chad Gray said of his first month at the helm of the business.

Gray perfected his culinary skills at Schenectady County Community College's culinary arts program. Prior to that he worked his way up from dishwasher to chef at Sport Island Pub in Northville while a student at Northville Central School.

"I knew early the culinary arts were to be my life calling," he said.

His wife Jean, a full-time teacher at Northville Central School, works alongside her husband on their newest business venture. She is no stranger to the food industry herself.

She grew up with parents who were both restaurateurs. Jean worked in Northville at her parents Klippel's Kozy Korner cafe on Bridge Street, learning the business.

"The fare is basically home-style cooking with a little imagination," said Chef Chad Gray. "We are catering to the diverse group of patrons we serve in this seasonal and tourist area, paying special attention to the local community and different seasons."

The menu varies from light pub fare to full dinners. "We go from burgers to prime rib and from pasta to lobster," said Gray, explaining the diverse choices and price ranges. "I like to think we have something for everyone to choose from in a couple different price ranges."

Homemade soups, fresh salads and dinners made to order can be expected.

"The dinners have been excellent, and we have already visited a couple times," said Ginger Driscoll of Northville.

The Alpine Grill is open Thursdays from 3-9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 3-10 p.m. and Sundays from 1-7 p.m. In May the Grays will open Wednesdays for the summer months from 3-9 p.m.

Further information, updates and specials can be found on their Facebook page or by calling The Alpine Grill at (518) 924-5655.
