Long Lake to celebrate Library Week

Saturday, April 05, 2014 - Updated: 5:45 PM

By MARTY FRIEDMAN

Trustee

The Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney Long Lake Public Library will celebrate Library Week with special events beginning Tuesday, April 15, and concluding Saturday, April 19.

An Open House will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be refreshments, giveaways, information about upcoming programs and a surprise visit by the Easter Bunny.

The library will forgive one overdue fine on materials returned to the circulation desk if accompanied by a non-perishable, unexpired food donation. Some limitations may apply, so call or stop by for more info. It's a great chance to set the record straight and help the food pantry at the same time.

Before I was appointed last September, to complete the term of a trustee who resigned, I had no idea of the extent of the services and programs the library offers the public, both young and old. Really, friends, it's a heck of a lot more than books and CDs.

You can use the library computers to connect to the Internet (or use your own) and even learn how to do it in PC and Mac computer classes. Add arts and crafts for kids and much, much more... all set in a serene, welcoming, historic and inviting space staffed by some of our favorite friends and neighbors.

Please express your support by stopping by during Library Week to see what devotion and hard work have produced.
