Handymen are ready to help out

Friday, April 26, 2013 - Updated: 7:04 PM

NORTHVILLE - Seniors who need help with chores such as raking and mowing, planting and weeding, removing storm windows, washing windows or overhauling the kitchen, cellar or attic may want to make a phone call to the Sacandaga Task Force For Senior Living Handyman Program.

The Handyman Program maintains a list of workers who are available for hire to help seniors with chores. Volunteers have checked references and are ready to provide the names and phone numbers of workers in the area who can provide the services needed.

The STFSL Handyman Directory includes workers who can provide help with everything from running errands and doing domestic chores to lawn care, carpentry and even trouble-shooting electronic equipment.

Several years ago when "Mrs. Jones" called needing help with house cleaning, she hired one of the folks whose names were provided by the program. The two got along very well and, when she later needed help with some carpentry work, the cleaner recommended her husband.

Since then, this husband and wife team has done all needed work for Mrs. Jones. It was the perfect solution.

To try the Handyman Program call the STFSL answering machine at 863-4040 ext. 42. Leave name and phone number and mention the Handyman Program. A volunteer will call back within 24 hours and will send a list of handymen eager to help.
