Wells Senior Citizens Club

At its February business meeting the Wells Senior Citizens Club was captivated by Mark Duryea's account of three hunting trips he made to Africa. He shared pictures and stories both humorous and scary about these trips.

Also at that meeting, Wells Central School Superintendent Thomas Sincavage updated the group about the school's finances and upcoming ballet issues in May.

At the February social meeting club members were entertained by Michelle Derwin, who played guitar and sang folk and ballad songs.

The March business meeting was cancelled due to snowy weather, but members had a chance to eat lunch at the meal site and play Bingo at our social meeting March 26. Christine Lancaster was the big winner.

The Wells Senior Trip Committee has events planned for spring, summer, and fall. They include:

-- June 3-5 Gettysburg battlefield tour plus the Sight and Sound Theater at Lancaster, Pa., to see a performance of "Moses;"

-- June 26 Perthshire in Vail Mills to participate in a Mountain Moonshine Mystery and enjoy a lunch buffet;

-- July 10 lunch at the Culinary Institute of America and a visit to the Roosevelt Home and Museum;

-- Aug. 21 matinee at the Mac-Haydn Theater and lunch in Chatham; and

-- Sept. 21 to Oct. 5 a New England and Canada cruise on the Celebrity Summit leaving Cape Liberty, N.J., on route to Quebec City and back to New Jersey with stops along the way.

Other trips have been planned by the Sacandaga Seniors, including a river cruise on the Snake and Columbia rivers in Oregon in May, a trip to Chicago in July, a mystery trip in August, and a dinner show at Lake George. The Broadalbin Seniors have a nine-day trip planned to Branson, Mo., in October.

The Wells Senior Citizens Club is sponsoring an AARP safe driving class with instructor Ray Hatch May 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held at the Wells United Methodist Church. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members.

Call Alice or Bob Megargle at 924-2220 for more information about the club, the driving class, or the trips.
