OLD FORGE - St. Elizabeth's Medical Center will take over the health center here Thursday, May 16.

It received its operating certificate for the health center May 9, according to Chief Operating Officer Bob Scholefield, after an almost two-hour inspection May 6.

Although St. E's will be operating the health center and lab offices, the dental office and the Home Aide Service of the Central Adirondacks (HASCA) will continue to operate under the same roof but independently of St. E's.

The lab, previously operated by Centrex, has been taken over by St. E's.

The office to the left inside the main entrance, which used to be the doctors' reception room, is now HASCA's office. The door at the end of the hall directly across from the entry door is the dentist's office and on the right, where the Centrex lab used to be, is the new doctors' office.

The physical therapy office that was previously in the building has moved to its new home in the Town of Webb's Park Avenue Building.

The search for a new doctor continues, according to Scholefield.

"We have resumes and have talked to some people, but we have to keep looking. We are using recruiting companies, too. We'll find someone," he said.

A community open house will be held sometime at the end of May.
