LAKE PLEASANT - Apparently the Kitterer Field property owned by the Town of Lake Pleasant has been growing during the many years the town has owned it.

The land is located at 102 Kitterer Fields Road, about a quarter mile in from South Shore Road. The town has been advertising for bids from possible buyers.

According to the county tax map, the property is 8.13 acres, but when the Town Board met May 21 and opened a bid of $15,000 from Andrew and Earlene Melious, owners of an abutting property, Supervisor Neil McGovern said recent surveys indicate the property could be as much as 15 acres.

McGovern said large sections of the property have no real value because of wetlands, and an extended narrow section is too narrow to accommodate any building.

The board accepted the Melious’ bid but decided to hold off on any action to sell until a title search can be completed.

It appears the town has owned the land since 1927, according to Real Property Tax Service Director Barry Baker. It was originally picked up by the town for a possible gravel pit, but no gravel was ever found.

OTHER BUSINESS

• Superintendent of Highways Leo Desrochers reported crews have started the foundation for the new storage garage. “It shouldn’t take too long to put the building up,” he said.

• The new backhoe was to be delivered last week, Desrochers said.

• McGovern thanked the Community Garden Club for new plants in front of Town Hall.

The Lake Pleasant Town Board will next meet Monday, June 4, starting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
