INDIAN LAKE - A custodian at Indian Lake Central School has been accused of raping a student at the school during his evening shift.

School Principal David Snide notified State Police June 3 regarding a female student who disclosed she was having a sexual relationship with an older male. Investigation identified the man as Robert G. Naubereit, 26, Indian Lake.

Nauberiet, a custodian at the school, allegedly met the girl after school hours and during his evening shift on several occasions. The meetings eventually led to inappropriate conduct by Nauberiet and progressed to him engaging the student in a sexual relationship, according to State Police.

Nauberiet was located at the school by State Police personnel June 3. He was taken to the Indian Lake State Police Barracks where he was arrested for third-degree rape.

Nauberiet was arraigned before Indian Lake Town Justice Thomas Atwell, who remanded him to Hamilton County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond bail.

Indian Lake Central School Superintendent Mark Brand said there is no indication of any other victims. Naubereit has been suspended without pay pending action to seek his termination by the Board of Education when it meets June 18.

Nauberiet is married with two children.
