PISECO - Hamilton County Community Services' Trailblazers program has been supporting the Piseco Education Center in Piseco since January.

Every Thursday from 3-5 p.m. Hamilton County prevention educators Joseph San Antonio and Allison Braunius have been challenging third- through sixth-graders with various team-building activities. In May 13 students had the opportunity to rock climb at a local climbing site near the Lake Pleasant Court House.

The goal of Hamilton County Community Services' Trailblazers program is to provide healthy activities that engage and challenge Hamilton County youth in a positive way. Over the years many students throughout the county have participated in activities such as horseback riding, canoeing, climbing, rafting, hiking, snowshoeing and much more.

Hamilton County provides transportation for up to 10 students per trip and supplies much of the equipment for many activities.

In an effort to maximize the experience, Trailblazer trips are regional to reduce the time spent in its van, costs are reduced (if not free) and all trips are chaperoned by at least two staff members. Parent participation is welcome on all trips.

The Trailblazers Outdoor Program will be running trips in Inlet, Long Lake, Indian Lake, Wells and Piseco / Lake Pleasant. Collaboration with community members and town recreation departments has made a lot of the programming a success and will continue for the 2013 summer season.

For more specific information about this year's summer trips contact Joseph San Antonio or Allison Braunius at 648-5355 or email
