of Broadalbin has graduated from the State University of New York at Albany as an honors graduate with a dual bachelor's degree in Chinese (Mandarin) and East Asian studies. She also has a minor in air and space studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.

 She was a cadet in the United States Air Force ROTC program where she was in the top 10 percent of her class and held the highest rank as cadet colonel. She received many ribbons such as the Purple Heart for Leadership, NCO Achievement Award, Warrior Spirit Award, American Legion General Military Excellence Gold Medal, AFROTC Achievement Award, five Honor Flight Awards and four Warrior Flight Awards, to name a few.

She was commissioned as a second lieutenant May 24. First Lieutenant Tony Cosentino, U.S. Army, gave Murphy her commissioning oath and her uncle, Senior Master Sergeant Kevin Bradt, United States Air Force, gave Murphy her first salute.

Michelle will be reporting to Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas for intelligence officer training. She is the daughter of Terry and Kelly Murphy of Broadalbin.

Her paternal grandparents are the late Robert and Katherine Murphy of Amsterdam. Maternal grandparents are Marlene Bradt of Wells, Donald Hunt of Wells and the late Sanford Bradt.
