Cemetery tweaked

Monday, August 26, 2013 - Updated: 9:43 PM

The Lake Pleasant Highway Department has removed a retaining wall at Airdville Cemetery, sloped the hill and had it hydro-seeded by Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District. The wall was built when the cemetery was expanded, but it has had a lot of problems over the years, according to Superintendent of Highways Leo Desrochers. It was five to six feet high, but erosion had washed soil out through the bottom, "leaving the stones looking like a bunch of beach balls piled up," Desrochers says. "We were worried about somebody (mostly kids) climbing on them and causing a blow out." The slope is safer and easier to maintain.
