Operators Ed Brooks for the town and Wayne Lucas for the village use backhoes to create the bed for the new, larger culvert. Although both backhoes are extend-a-hoes, neither one alone could have reached deep or wide enough to do the job.

The Town of Lake Pleasant and Village of Speculator highway departments collaborated to put a new eight-foot culvert in at the Pole Bridge stream in Perkins Clearing, replacing an old, damaged five-foot culvert pipe. (Photos/Leo Desrochers)
