INDIAN LAKE -- The Indian Lake Central School District Board of Education has begun making plans for its share of over $1.3 million in grants won by Bioenergy Project Partners LLC, Saratoga Springs, in Round 3 of the Regional Economic Development initiative.

The grant was awarded BPP in partnership with Essex, Franklin and Hamilton counties for the Wood Pellet Heating Initiative. BPP helps design, finance, install and service high-efficiency biomass heating systems.

This project will install high-efficiency wood pellet boilers at five institutional buildings, including ILCS, in three counties in the North Country.

Superintendent Mark Brand told the BOE Dec. 17 he has yet to learn what portion of the money ILCS is entitled to under the grant.

The board agreed to hire Bernier, Carr and Assoc., Watertown, to draft a building project that would include the wood pellet boiler, a generator and possibly up to $10,000 for additional asbestos removal and present the outlines of a plan when the board next meets Tuesday, Jan. 21, starting at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

-- Allison Eldridge and Kimberly Thompson were approved as substitute teachers.

-- Andrew Snide will be the boys' 2014 varsity baseball coach.

-- The adult lunch price is going up from $3.50 to $3.60.

Mathematics teachers Stephanie Bennett and Erica Eager took the board members to the math room, where they were educated in how the teachers are using Texas Instruments graphing calculators to help teach math.

These calculators allow both teachers and students to project an interactive representation of a calculator's display to the entire class. What shows up on the screen at the front of the class also shows up on the screens of the individual calculators held by the students. The teacher is privy to the answers and graphs on the students' devices.
