John Roy Steurer

WELLS -- John Roy Steurer passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2014 at the home of his daughter where he resided for the past year.
Roy was born Dec. 30, 1924 in Tarrytown, NY to Helen and Clemens F.W. Steurer.
He graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1943; and also graduated Pilot Class 44K Feb. 1, 1945 from the United States Army Air Corps. He attended General Motor Tech, Flint, Mich., where he met and married Charlotte Ann Knowles on June 5, 1948. He was employed by Albion Malleable Iron Co. in Albion, Mich. from 1947 to 1959.
Charlotte and Roy retired to Wells, NY in 1987.
He was a member of the Tarrytown Fire Department; Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, serving as board chairman and captain; Wells Post 1565 America Legion, serving as post commander three times and county commandeer twice; and Wells United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.
He was predeceased by his wife in 2005.
He is survived by his children, son Mark Clemens and his wife Margaret of Timonium, Md. and daughter Ruth Ann of Nyack; four grandchildren, Kristine Kingston (Thomas) of Baldwin, Md., Julie O'Malley (James) of Pasadena, Md., Michael Steurer (Karyn) of Menands and Caroline DeWilde (Michael) of Macedon; and seven great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ella, Kathryn Grace, Lily, Abigael, Mackenzie and Michael James.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church of Wells. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Methodist Church.
