Ila Simons Ploss

Ila Simons Ploss, 90 of Piseco, NY passed away Friday morning June 10, 2011 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville. She was born on October 4, 1920 in Baldwinsville, NY. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Fravor Baker. She was a graduate of Wells High School, class of 1939.
She worked at various jobs throughout the years including; her family business, the Baker Hotel in Higgins Bay, Weather observer for NOAA for over six decades, House manager at the International Paper Seminar Center at Hamilton Lake and Contract Bus Driver for Piseco School.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lake Pleasant, Piseco Women’s Club, She was a Sunday School Teacher and also a Girl Scout Leader.
She was married to Hasson Simons in 1940 and then married John Ploss.
Survivors include her two sons; John (Marcia) Simons of Piseco and Charles Simons of Elliot, Maine. Three daugthers; J. Emily (Harold) King of Caroga Lake, Ida (Nick) Paone of Saratoga Springs, and Donna Simons of Syracuse. Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive her. She was predeceased by both of her husbands, her brother; William Baker, two sisters; Myra Savarie and her twin sister, Ida Parslow. Two special daughters-in-law; Barbara Simons and Margaret Simons.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held later this summer at the convenience of the family in Higgins Bay Cemetery, Piseco.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Piseco Ambulance Corps., Piseco Women’s Club and United Methodist Church of Lake Pleasant. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Home.
