Obituary - 08/08/2012

Muriel Telfer Benson
July 25, 2012

Former Piseco resident, Muriel Telfer Benson, age 91, passed away on July 25 in Amsterdam at the River Ridge Living Center where she had been convalescing following a brief hospitalization.
Born in Englewood, NJ, Muriel spent her younger years in the Lake Pleasant and Speculator areas.
She graduated from Wells High School where she excelled in sports. She enjoyed all that the Adirondacks had to offer: fishing, swimming, skiing, hiking and boating.
After raising a family in Piseco, she married Richard Benson and resided in Chaumont, New York. The Bensons travelled extensively, spending the winter months in the Bahamas where they entertained family and friends and found joy in beach combing and             snorkeling. Muriel was well known for her knowledge of the ocean and its inhabitants. In recent years, following the death of her husband, she spent    winters in Lake Worth, Florida, yet always looked forward to the spring       season when she could return to Chaumont and visit her family and friends in the Piseco area. Her sister, Carol, was a constant companion throughout her life.
Muriel leaves behind her devoted sister, Carol Telfer Rogers of Lake Pleasant, daughter RoseAnn Beaudoin of Piseco and daughter Anne Hallock of Los Angeles. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Todd Beaudoin and Lisa and Peter Hallock. Also missed by her great grand children, who called her “GG,” Great Gram, are Madelyn Beaudoin and Alexa, Anna, Arietta and Miles Hallock, as well as special nieces, Ginger and Terry Rogers.
A memorial service will be held at the Chaumont Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 12 at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Chaumont Presbyterian Church, Box 264, Chaumont, New York 13622.
