Regina A. Atwell
October 28, 2011


Regina A. Atwell, age 87, died Friday afternoon, October 28, 2011 at Saratoga Hospital.
Born on October 9, 1924 in Indian Lake, she was the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (King) Mitchell. Regina was a lifelong resident of Indian Lake. She was a graduate of Indian lake Central School.
She married Lowell “Puggy” Atwell on June 14, 1948 in Fair Haven, Vermont. Mr. Atwell died on March 24, 1994 following 45 years of marriage.
Regina worked as a custodian for the Town of Indian Lake offices as well as for many local families. She assisted Ethel Fletcher with the cooking at Wakely Lodge and had also worked at the Tastee Freeze in Indian Lake. She later worked as a guide at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake for 16 years.
She enjoyed knitting, ceramics, crafts, flowers, and working in her yard.
Regina was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lowell Atwell; her twin sister, Eugina Mitchell; two brothers, Edward Mitchell and Franklin Mitchell.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Johnson of Schaghticoke; three sons, Jeff Atwell and his wife Susan of Albany, Tom Atwell and his wife Debbie of Indian lake, Richard Atwell of Indian lake; 7 grandchildren, Janell Johnson and her husband Jim, Kristy Martin, Scott Atwell and his wife Gina, Carrie Meher and her husband Scott, Tim Atwell, Jennifer Atwell and Stephanie Atwell; 5 great grandchildren, Jillian, Jimmy, Aiden, Jacob and Gavin.
Friends may call Sunday (today) from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, 6357 State Route 30, Indian Lake.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake, with the Rev. E. Paul Miller, pastor, presiding.
Burial will be in Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake.

Helen M. Smorgans

Helen M. Smorgans, age 89, of LaVergne Road, Indian Lake, died Monday morning, October 24, 2011 at her home.
Until her retirement in 1984 Helen was employed as Automotive Fleet Manager for Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ, managing 1,500 vehicles throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. She was recently inducted into the Automotive Fleet Hall of Fame.  She was chairperson of the New Jersey National Association of Fleet Administrators Chapter, which she had helped to organize and was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Walter Smorgans; one daughter, Barbara Smorgans Marshall and her husband Roger Marshall of Burlington, VT; and one son, Walter M. Smorgans and his wife Cindy of Cambridge, VT.
In accordance with Helen’s wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral    services scheduled.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
The family wishes to express thanks to Hudson Headwaters Health Network, High Peaks Hospice and Helping Hands Caregivers. Special feelings of gratitude go to Helen’s personal caregivers Sylvia, Liddy, Karen, Kenda and Julie.
Donations may be made on Helen’s behalf to the Indian Lake Ambulance Corps, PO Box 39, Indian Lake, NY 12842 and Helping Hands Caregivers, 145 White Birch Lane, Indian Lake, NY 12842 on whose boards she served.
Entombment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, 6357 State Route 30, Indian Lake.
