Robert E. Wright, 90, of Slingerlands, NY passed away peacefully at the Albany Stratton VA Hospital on December 21, 2012. He was the son of the late Walter and Edith (Moak) Wright .
A U.S. Army veteran, Bob honorably served his country in the 10th Mountain Division during WW II and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Italy.
Robert was the founder of Robert Wright Disposal, Inc. in 1949 which is his legacy that is being carried on by his second and third generation. Besides his love for the refuse industry, Bob enjoyed much of his time surrounded by family and friends at his lake house in Wells, NY. Bob loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed doing so with his children and grandchildren. In his later years he would relish watching his children and grandchildren enjoying life in Wells. After retiring Bob took up the hobby of making Adirondack furniture which he was proud to make for family and friends. For many years Bob was also a member of the Delmar Fire Department and the Albany Pistol Club. On occasion Bob would enjoy meandering into the local VFW hall to share war stories.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Florence (Luciano) Wright, Son Robert W. (Joan) Wells, N.Y. , Grandson Robert D. (Kristy) Wells, NY, great grandchildren, Lilianna, Ryder and Sophia, and a son Gerald M. (Susan), Slingerlands, NY, granddaughters, Lea and Abbi. He is also survived by a sister in law, Katherine (Kay) Wright and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends were invited to call on Friday, December 28th from 4 to 7 pm at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral service was held 10:30 am Saturday, December 29th at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Dorcas C. Shaw

Dorcas C. Shaw, 97, of Broadalbin died Tuesday December 25, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam.
She was born in Saratoga Springs on February 14, 1915 a daughter of Beroth and Anna Daniels Crapo and was a 1933 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Dorcas received a BA from the State University College at Plattsburg in 1973.
Dorcas was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church and shared a special bond with this church as her father pastored there for 16 years. She was active in church administration and with its choir.
When her husband was principal in Long Lake and then Ellenburg schools Dorcas was employed at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake and subsequently attended college in Plattsburg. When he later taught in Old Forge, Dorcas enjoyed attending art classes at the Art Center there. Throughout the years they continued to maintain their residence in Broadalbin. When her husband retired they traveled extensively throughout the United States.
Dorcas was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the DAR. She loved to read, enjoyed gardening, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a selfless volunteer and a devoted mother and wife.
She was married to Robert H. Shaw on June 8, 1936. He died April 11, 2007. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Crapo and Gertrude Costine, and a brother, Daniels B. Crapo.
Survivors include two sons, Philip (Joanna) Shaw of San Antonio, TX and David (Valentine) Shaw of Simsbury, CT; a daughter, Barbara (William) Allen of Saratoga Springs; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 29 at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church, 65 North Main Street, Broadalbin, NY, with Pastor Bill Delia officiating.
Burial will be held in the spring at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours were held on Friday, December 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, 111 County Highway, Route 106, Johnstown, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dorcas’s name may be made to the United Methodist Church, 65 North Main Street, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
Dean Gregory Hotaling

HOTALING, Dean Gregory, 78, of Lutz, Florida passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012. He was born in New York and moved to Lutz, Florida from Latham, New York.
Dean was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1955 to 1957 and was an ET3. He was very active in the USS Furse DD/DDR-882 reunions serving as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President. Dean served in the Korean Conflict and was a graduate of New York University. He was an agent with Allstate Insurance retiring after 35 years. Dean was a Mason for 45 years, Past Master of Wadsworth Lodge #417, Van Rensselaer Lodge and was Past Grand Sword Bearer for the Albany Mason District.
Dean loved to water ski, canoe and enjoyed being in the Adirondack Mountains at his camp Onesquethaw, and was an enthusiastic member of Lake Como Family Nudist Resort.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years Betty Anne; daughter, Doreen Hotaling of Latham, NY; stepson, John McClain of Boca Raton, FL; stepdaughter, Melissa McClain of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Lou Natoli of Oswego, NY; four grandsons, Alex Ward, Sean McClain, Cade McClain and Sage Hass; six nephews and one niece. Private services will be held.
