A bold 13 plungers braved the seven-degree temperature and jumped into the Lake Pleasant Outlet during the Town of Lake Pleasant's Second Annual Polar Bear Plunge Wednesday, Jan. 1. Forty-five or so spectators cheered as the plungers welcomed in 2014 at noon New Year's Day wearing a variety of festive garb, including a bikini. Many wore pink Ride For The Cure t-shirts to promote the Pleasant Riders' Jan. 25 fundraiser for breast cancer research. Mayor Letty Rudes handed out Lake Pleasant Polar Plunge T-shirts provided by Supervisor Neil McGovern while members of the snowmobile club provided cookies and hot chocolate. The village crew set up the site, Spencer Tracy and Jon Lane provided wood for the bonfire and Jay and Betsy Bain served the refreshments and worked.
