Wells and Indian Lake / Long Lake competed against northern Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference schools last week in high school basketball action.

Team win-loss records as of Sunday are Wells boys 8-6, Wells girls 1-12, IL/LL boys 9-5 and IL/LL girls 12-1.

CROWN PT 45, WELLS 25

The Lady Indians opened up the week Monday, Feb. 4, traveling to Crown Point to face the Panthers. Wells trailed 13-9 at halftime and made a strong 12-13 third-quarter run to get within five points. Crown Point held Wells to four points in the final quarter to obtain the 45-25 win.

Brittany Woodward netted three 3-point shots as part of her team-high 15 points. She also recorded six rebounds and four steals.

In Long Lake Tuesday, Feb. 5, a convincing 22-4 second quarter secured a 50-35 win over Keene for the IL/LL boys. Colin Farrell led the scoring with 22 points. Matt Moore contributed nine points, seven rebounds and three assists. Rudy Giessen hauled in nine rebounds.

CROWN PT 55, WELLS 39

The Wells boys’ team traveled to Crown Point Tuesday, Feb. 5, to face the Panthers. The Indians put in a strong first half, trailing by three at the break. Crown Point spread the scoring gap in the third quarter, taking a seven-point lead. The Panthers then sealed the game with a 16-7 fourth quarter to pick up the 55-39 win.

Jake Earley and Ben Brenan led the Wells offense with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Two state-ranked teams went head to head in Keene Wednesday, Feb. 6, when 17th ranked IL/LL faced the 19th ranked Beavers. The Lady Orange put forth a balanced offensive attack to pick up the 40-24 win. Jessica Bain led the way with nine points, followed by Shannon Farrell, Abby Darling and Sydney Hinckley with eight points each.

Crown Point traveled to Wells Thursday, Feb. 6, to face the Lady Indians. The game was competitive before Crown Point broke it open with a 17-2 third quarter en route to picking up the 41-23 win. Sam Zemken led Wells with 14 points and eight rebounds. Bobbi-Jo Page contributed seven rebounds, seven steals and six points.

The week of games concluded Thursday, Feb. 7, when the IL/LL boys and girls teams traveled to Chazy for a double header.

Meg Smith led the Lady Orange to a 33-15 win with 18 points and six rebounds. Jessica Bain paced IL/LL with six points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sydney Hinckley was active on the boards, collecting nine rebounds.

The IL/LL boys’ team held a 10-point lead over the host Eagles heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, Chazy’s Brandon Laurin sank three consecutive 3-point shots to pull away from The Orange. IL/LL couldn’t recover and suffered the 53-50 loss.

Colin Farrell and Curtis Seaman each scored 15 points for IL/LL.
