The competition will showcase successful events recently hosted in the Adirondack Park. The awards presentation will take place during Adirondack Park Local Government Day April 10 in Lake Placid.
The conference committee seeks entries of events that featured civic spirit, activism and volunteerism.
Awards will be presented for eight categories: Best in Summer; Best in Winter; Best in Spring-Fall (off season); Best on Water; Most Authentic Adirondack; Most Adirondack Quirky; Best Adirondack Sporting Challenge; and Best Historic / Cultural / Educational / Agricultural.
The Adirondack Regional Tourism Council Board of Directors will judge the submissions based on how well each event demonstrated community spirit and involvement; benefited the community; helped foster a distinctive, inviting community with a strong sense of place; provided entertainment, activities, and value to residents and visitors; supported the goal of making the Adirondacks a tourism destination; and demonstrated creativity and innovation.
The competition is open to all municipalities, civic and not-for-profit organizations that have sponsored events within the park in the past five years.
All submissions must include an application, photos and a brief description of the event, and how it exemplifies the award criteria. The event must have been open to the general public.
Submit a completed application form and photos to APA-LGSP@gw.dec.state.ny.us with the subject line "LGD Best Event Contest." All submissions must be received by March 24.
