Police Report - 02/27/2013

Friday, Feb. 15, 8:30pm: Two men were injured in two separate snowmobile accidents on the Powley Road in the Town of Arietta, about two miles from Rt. 10.

Douglas G. Wilkins, 45, Horseheads, told Deputy Corey Hutchins he was going too fast to negotiate a curve and left the south side of the road on his 2004 Yamaha. He jumped off before the snowmobile hit a tree but still injured his shoulder. Piseco Volunteer Ambulance Corps took Wilkins to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, where he was later transferred to Albany Medical Center with further unspecified injuries.

Gordon L. Whitaker, 60, Lodi, was seriously injured when he failed to negotiate the same curve. His 2012 Polaris left the south edge of the road and hit several trees. Hutchins believes Whitaker may have been trying to avoid a collision with Wilkins, above.

Ambulance Service of Fulton County took Whitaker to Nathan Littauer Hospital with chest injuries, where he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. The investigation is continuing.
