LAKE PLEASANT - The Hudson River / Black River Regulating District has been ordered to pay the property taxes it owes Hamilton County.
HRBRRD owns properties on the Sacandaga River in the towns of Hope and Benson. The county sued HRBRRD last spring, after it stopped paying its taxes.
The county covered the delinquent taxes, as state law requires, to the tune of $119,362: about $65,000 to Northville Central School District, about $5,000 to Wells Central School District, $35,000 to Hope and $14,000 to Benson.
Supreme Court Justice Richard T. Aulisi ruled Aug. 6, 2012 against HRBRRD in the amount of $119,362 and in favor of the county / town real property taxes for 2009 - 2012, and re-levied school real property taxes for 2009/10 and 2011/12.
When the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors met Thursday, March 7, it approved a settlement drafted by County Attorney Charles R. Getty Jr.
The settlement provides for the back payment of the current real property taxes (county, town and school) without interest or penalties as taxes become due, together with 50 percent ($59,680.92) of the judgment on or about March 1, 2013 and the 50 percent ($59,680.92) balance by March 1, 2014.
This year’s payment had not been received as of March 11.
The board authorized the superintendent of highways to purchase two used trailers: a 1995 Ti-Brook Dump Trailer for $30,000 and a 1994 Ti-Brook dump trailer for $30,000 from Tracey Road Equipment Inc., East Syracuse.
The trailers have more capacity than those currently used by the county. A 1984 Dorsey dump trailer will be sold to help offset the purchase.
The board also authorized highway superintendent to purchase two trailer-mounted message / radar signs from All Traffic Solutions, State College, Pa. at a total cost of $19,080.
The signs will be used for speed monitoring and traffic counts at locations throughout the county as needed. They operate on solar-powered batteries.
Six bids ranging from $9,780 to $22,848 were received for the printing and delivery of 125,000 copies of the 2013/14 Hamilton County Map / Guide. The board awarded the contract to the low bidder, Catamount Color / The Offset House, Essex, Vt.
The board also authorized its chairman to sign contracts with facilitators, presenters and guides for the 2013 Birding Festival.
Each guide or facilitator is to receive $75 per outing, with a daily limit of two outings per guide. There may be up to eight guided outings each day of the festival. Lectures are not to exceed $250 each.

-- The board authorized its chairman to enter into a contract with Integrys Energy Services of New York Inc. for a fixed price of $0.07108 per kilowatt hour for one year, 2013, for electric power to all county buildings.
