PLATTSBURGH - Section VII Class D Champion Indian Lake / Long Lake Lady Orange fell to Argyle 47-21 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association regional finals Saturday in Plattsburgh, ending an exceptional season.
The Orange played its final game of the 2011-2012 season against Section II champs the Argyle Scots.
Argyle, ranked eighth among New York State Class D teams, started the game with a full court press. The Scots’ four seniors and one junior’s athleticism and quickness made it difficult for IL/LL to advance the ball up court. Once The Orange did get the ball into the front court there was little time remaining for them to run offense.
IL/LL, which will have their full roster returning next year, battled throughout the game. Their aggressive defense held Argyle well under their season scoring average of 59.8 points.
Jessica Bain’s three points and nine rebounds led IL/LL. Shannon Farrell, Morgan Hinckley and Abby Darling each finished with four points. Meg Smith contributed two points, six rebounds and three blocks.
Jax Miller, the Scot’s all-time scoring leader, led Argyle with 16 points.
The Orange finished the season with an 18-3 record and ranked 15th in the latest (Feb. 26) New York State Sports Writers poll.
