16 years of rough roads

Pick any state highway in Hamilton County -- Rt. 8, Rt. 10, Rt. 28 or Rt. 30 -- and you will be sure to find sections in need of repair, sections that can damage a car and sections that might cause one to lose control. This sign on Rt. 28 a few miles east of the hamlet of Raquette Lake was recently updated by some anonymous member of the public who has grown tired of waiting for the NYS Department of Transportation to fix the bumpy road. He (or she) covered over the 'miles' portion of the sign to change the meaning from "Rough Road Next 16 miles" to "Rough Road Next 16 Years." (Photo/Pete Klein)
