Children learn about local jobs

LONG LAKE - Long Lake Central School Pre-K and Kindergarten classes studied a unit called Community Helpers during March, learning about various jobs and careers and how they relate to the community.

The children learned the specifics about tools used, vehicles driven, uniforms worn and education or training needed for each job. They also learned about safety procedures and how some community helpers work together to keep a community safe.

In addition to learning about jobs through literature, visual aids and technology, students had the opportunity to learn from real community workers.

A special thanks to the following for visiting the school classroom to discuss their jobs with the children: New York State Electric & Gas linemen Gabe Farr and Matt Patnode; State Police troopers Dustin Fleishman and Jennifer Coffman; and LLCS Nurse Genevieve Boyd.
