INDIAN LAKE -- The Indian Lake Central School District Board of Education has approved a 2014/15 budget that comes in $5,208 under the state-imposed cap on any increase to the tax levy.
The budget will be presented to voters during a hearing Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. It stands at $6,110,339, an increase of $126,998 or 2.12 percent over the 2013/14 budget of $5,983,341.
The levy (amount to be raised by taxes) currently stands at $4,562,339, up $107,742 or 2.41 percent over the 2013/14 levy.
According to the formula the state uses to estimate the tax levy, any amount below $4,567,547 would have kept Indian Lake from exceeding the cap.
Tax levy growth is limited each year to 2 percent or the rate of inflation, whichever is lower. This year the inflation factor is lower, at 1.5 percent. The inflation factor for schools is the average monthly Consumer Price Index for the last six months of the previous year.
Also, a school's tax levy cap can be higher than 2 percent or the rate of inflation, due to expenses it is allowed to exclude from the calculation used to arrive at each year's figure.
-- The Travel Club will be allowed to take a five-day trip during Spring Break 2015, to Cancun, Mexico. The students will pay for their expenses with money they earn or donations they gather.

-- Members of the Professional Development Plan Board are teacher assistant Elsa Schisler; Library Media Specialist George Dechant; and teachers Nora Harrington, Sandy Bureau, and Kelly Walker. Administrative members of the board are Superintendent Mark Brand and Principal David Snide.
-- Carolyn Hansen was approved as a substitute but not limited to teaching (kitchen, etc.). Patricia Curry was named Volleyball Club advisor with a stipend of $648.
The next regular meeting of the school board will be Tuesday, May 20, starting at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. That is also the day of the annual vote, to be held from 12-8 p.m. in the school's front lobby.
