NEWCOMB - The local branch of Community Bank, N.A. at 4995 State Route 28N here will close July 19, leaving patrons with about a 16-mile drive to what will become the nearest branch, in Long Lake. Their accounts will automatically be transferred there.
The same old faces will greet them, as the employees who work at the Newcomb branch come from the Long Lake branch.
The Newcomb branch has been open just two days a week. Hal Wentworth, senior vice president for retail banking, said the consolidation would improve the efficiency of the bank's branch network and allow its area employees to work at one location.
The Long Lake branch is open five days a week. It has a 24-hour ATM and safety-deposit boxes, services the Newcomb branch does not have.
Long Lake and Newcomb employees will help customers set up direct deposit, night deposit, online banking, remote deposit capture or other services to ease the transition, according to a release.
The Long Lake lobby is open Mondays to Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Community Bank branch in North Creek, slightly further from Newcomb, has the same hours.
Community Bank, N.A. is headquartered in DeWitt, a suburb of Syracuse. It has branch offices in Upstate New York stretching diagonally from Northern New York to the Southern Tier and west to Lake Erie.
