BLUE MT. LAKE - Alexandria Harris of Long Lake has been named managing director of the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts here. Her responsibilities include membership, fund-raising, grants and managing the office and staff.
Harris graduated with a bachelor's degree in History in 2011 from St. Lawrence University and completed her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction a year later at State University of New York at Potsdam.
She has served as the center's office manager for over a year. The Board of Trustees was unanimous in naming her managing director.
Harris not only danced at St. Lawrence, she worked extensively in the St. Lawrence Theatre's costume shop. "The best way to understand things is from the inside," she said of her experience.
Members were overheard buzzing about the new appointment. An Indian Laker said, "Alexandria cares. She's very capable. This is win win!"
When asked of her goals, Harris didn't hesitate. "There's no better jumping off point for education and advocacy than the arts."
She added, "My mom instilled in me that you have to care greatly about what you do for a living. Which makes this much more than just a job."
Harris assumed her new responsibilities April 15.
