BOREAL BIRDING FESTIVAL
LAKE PLEASANT--Hamilton County's 9th Annual Boreal Birding Festival will be June 7-9, featuring renowned birder Bruce Beehler. This three-day event features bird-watching hikes, canoe trips, walks, safaris, outings and seminars throughout the county. KIDS' FISHING DERBY
LONG LAKE--The Long Lake Fish & Game Club will hold a Youth Fishing Contest for ages 16 and under Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jennings Park Pond on Rt. 30 here. The pond is stocked with trout in the early spring. Prizes are awarded and a life-long Adirondack hobby is born. LEARN CPR IN 10 MINUTES
SPECULATOR--Have 10 minutes next Wednesday night to learn CPR? Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps invites anyone ages 10 and up to join them at Lake Pleasant Central School on Elm Lake Road here Wednesday, May 22, at any time between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. to learn hands-only CPR in 10 minutes.
Bring the younger kids and their teddy bears, too. While the adults learn CPR, Rescue Rabbit and his helpers will be there to entertain the children with a "Teddy Bear Clinic." For more information call the ambulance corps office at 548-5911. There is no charge for this training.
OPEN HOUSE PLANNED
WELLS--The Virginia Hosley Free Library on Route 30 here will hold an open house Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to noon to celebrate its 15th birthday. There will be live entertainment featuring the Arrows of the Word under the direction of Steve Page. Cupcakes, punch and other goodies will be provided.

WALK AGAINST CANCER
SPECULATOR--A Susan G. Komen for the Cure 5K Run / Walk will be held Saturday, June 1, starting from Lake Pleasant Central School on Elm Lake Road here. FISHING DERBY SET
RAQUETTE LAKE--The Seventh Annual Lamphear Memorial Fishing Derby will be May 17 and 18. Register at the Raquette Lake Tap Room and fish from 5 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday. WINE PAIRING DINNER
SPECULATOR--Speculator Lions Club will host a Wine Pairing Dinner at Melody Lodge Thursday, May 16, starting at 6 p.m. with meet and greet. The dinner begins at 7 p.m.

KYAC TO BENEFIT
OLD FORGE--North Woods Inn and Central Adirondack Kiwanis will host a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Kommunity Youth and Activity Center here Friday, May 17. The event will begin at 5 p.m. at North Woods Inn Tavern on State Route 28 north of Old Forge. The menu will include salad, spaghetti, meatballs, roll and soft drink. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children under age 8.
There will be a bake sale of desserts and Mike Notley will conduct karaoke from 8 p.m. to midnight. Guest bartenders Doc and Judy Foley, Peter Shannon and Bill Ransom will donate their tips to KYAC.

IT'S YARD SALE TIME
INDIAN LAKE--The spring TownWide Yard Sale here will run May 24-26 this year, part of the Great Adirondack Garage Sale from Long Lake to Indian Lake, Inlet and Old Forge along state routes 28, 28N and 30.
The Charity Yard Sale, which is part of this event, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24 and 25 at the Indian Lake Fire Hall on E. Main Street, with the bag sale Saturday from 12-4 p.m. The Charity Yard Sale benefits local charities.
ARMS FAIR IS SLATED
LAKE GEORGE--New Eastcoast Arms Collectors Associates will host an Arms Fair & Sportsman's Expo at the Lake George Forum May 18 and 19. The forum is at 2200 State Route 9.
Firearms buffs, sportsmen and collectors will buy, sell and trade historical firearms, Americana, military collectibles, reference books, knives and accessories.
The doors open to the public Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission is $8 daily ($7 for those over age 60); children under age 14 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Townspeople here will honor the fallen heroes who fought to protect American freedom with a brief service at Wells Community Hall on Rt. 30 Saturday, May 25, starting at 9 a.m. There will be a brief address, a Memorial Day wreath will be laid and Wells Central School Band members will play. Everyone is welcome to attend.
LONG LAKE--Memorial Day in the Town of Long Lake will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Long Lake Bridge.
At noon Long Lake American Legion Post 650, the Long Lake Central School Band and the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department will march from Long Lake Town Hall down Main Street to the cemetery.

LONG LAKE--The Hamilton County Memorial Day Parade will be held in Long Lake this year. It will leave Mt. Sabattis on Rt. 30 at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 27.
Everyone is welcome to enter a float in the float contest for cash prizes. Decorate a float for a chance to win money for a club, organization or charity. All float participants should arrive and line up on Owl's Head Lane (Sagamore Road) prior to the 1:30 p.m. departure time.

LONG LAKE--Adirondack Quilt Camp will be June 23-26 at Long Lake Central School, sponsored by the Town of Long Lake and Log Cabin Fabrics.
Classes will run from 1-4 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Ten award-winning quilt instructors will give 20 classes and workshops. There will also be lectures, evening programs and special children's classes.
