The least we can do

Hello Cris:

Every Memorial Day only a handful of people attend the short memorial services held by the Indian Lake American Legion. It consists of a prayer, firing a salute and the placement of a wreath, followed by sounding Taps at each of four memorials.

The ceremony takes less than 15 minutes at each location, but is so significant in honoring and paying our respects to all those veterans who have paid the ultimate price.

We would like to urge everyone to try and attend at least one convenient for you. On this Memorial Day, May 27, at 9 a.m. the first ceremony will be at the memorial in front of the Methodist Church in Blue Mountain Lake, at about 9:15 a.m. the second will be at the memorial in front of the BML firehouse down the street.

About 9:45 a.m. at the memorial in front of the Indian Lake Central School will be number three and finally, at the memorial in front of the American Legion Hall a short distance down Main Street at 10 a.m. will be the fourth.

This is the least we can do to recognize these heroes.
