Desrochers is retiring

Dear Cris,

I would like to inform the taxpayers of the Town of Lake Pleasant that I will not be running for highway superintendent this year. After picking up my election packet and hearing back from the retirement system the hard decision was made.

I want to thank you all for the last 35 years that I've been with the town. I started at the bottom in 1977 picking garbage and over the years made it to the top as highway superintendent, for the last four years.

I am retiring at the end of this term to do other things like play with my grandchildren while I am still young enough to enjoy them.

After a lot of thinking and talking with people I made the decision to ask Wayne Lucas to run for my position. Wayne has seven years with the Village of Speculator, five as foreman. Prior to the village job he spent 25 years working construction, 20 as foreman or supervisor.

I like his attitude about where the town is going and where it will go in the future. We have started improving the town with a computer system for the Highway Department and another for our cemeteries. Wayne will keep these going and improve on them where he can.

I think of all I have heard who are running Wayne is the only choice that will devote the time it takes to be a good highway superintendent. The highway superintendent position is not a part-time job; it is 24/7 12 months of the year. Anyone who thinks otherwise is sadly mistaken.

Thank you all for 35 years, it has been a pleasure working for you.

Leo Desrochers
