INDIAN LAKE -- The Town of Indian Lake's Independence Day Celebration will be Saturday, July 5.
The day will kick off with the annual Kids' Fishing Derby at Byron Park starting at 8 a.m. The Indian Lake / Blue Mountain Lake Fish and Game Association sponsors this event every year with over 200 kids participating.
This is a free event for children under the age of 16. New this year, the club will also sponsor a Kids' .22 Shoot at its range on Chain Lakes Road, from 2-4 p.m. This will be an Introduction to Target Shooting & Gun Safety; .22 caliber and BB guns will be used.
Saturday will also bring the United Methodist Church's Bazaar, Bake Sale and Flea Market. There will be many homemade baked goods and handmade items for sale, plus many gently used items. It all starts at 9:30 a.m. and goes to 1:30 p.m. The Bake Sale and Bazaar will take place at the church on Main Street and the Flea Market just south of that at the parsonage.
In Blue Mountain Lake the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will hold its annual auction. The action starts at 10 a.m. and finishes up at 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to find a treasure and is fun to participate in or just sit back and watch.
Also, the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold its annual Chicken Barbeque at the fire hall. Stop in after 4 p.m. to enjoy this delicious meal, but get there early because they will more than likely sell out.
THE BIG PARADE
There will be a parade down Main Street starting Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The theme this year is "Stars and Stripes Forever." All individuals and organizations are invited to join the parade. The float contest will be judged on the theme. The classic cars are always a hit.
The best-dressed tractor competition is back again this year. Deck out a tractor (no lawnmowers) and enter it in the parade. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
Registration forms for the parade are available at Town Hall and the Chamber of Commerce or by calling 648-5828. These forms should be turned into the Events / Activities Dept. (POB 730, Indian Lake NY 12842) at the town hall by July 2. The Best Float prize is $50. Prizes for the tractor competition are $75 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third.
AFTER THE PARADE
The Byron Park festivities will include musical entertainment by Ed Sokal. The Blue Mountain Lake United Methodist Church will hold a Strawberry Shortcake Social from 6-8 p.m., the Country Christmas Tour Committee will sell 50/50 raffle tickets, North Country Crafters will sell quilt raffle tickets and there will be glow necklaces and bracelets sold.
