I am writing to raise awareness for our closest wildlife rehabilitator, Sarah Mc Daniel-Austin. Sarah takes care of injured animals in Fulton, Montgomery and Hamilton counties.
She does not get any funding from the state for being a rehabilitator. She would have to absorb all costs if it were not for the generous and caring people in the communities she serves, through their donations and fund-raisers. The dedication and compassion I have recently witnessed first-hand when bringing an injured animal to her was outstanding.
I would love to give back to this lady who stays up around the clock with a sick fawn, takes in babies who have lost their mothers and helps birds who fall from their nests. Her specialty is birds of prey, but Sarah turns no animal away.
Please join me and show support from the north. I will be accepting various donations. Sarah serves these little critters with medical attention, food and warmth as well as shelter.
Donations can consist of surgical gloves, antiseptic, syringes, cotton balls, gauze, paper towels, wash cloths, wet wipes, garbage bags, gift cards to Home Depot and Lowes for building supplies, gas cards to assist with transport and pickup of injured animals, Hannaford gift cards for fresh fruits, vegetables and yogurt.
You can also pick up these items locally and I can deliver them to her. The list is much more extensive than above. She also can use money to assist in getting much-needed supplies like special formulas.
This is just a start to show you what is needed every day to care for these animals. You can contact me at 924-4492 to ask questions or to set up a time for drop-off or pick-up of items you wish to donate.
If you would like to send gift cards, checks or money orders you can mail them to Avian Experience / Sarah's Birds of Prey, 61 Elmwood Ave. Suite 130, Gloversville NY 12078.
Most important is Sarah's contact number if you should ever need her: (518) 505-5351 or the North Country Wildcare Emergency Hotline at (518) 964-6740.
