Indian Lake marks Independence Day with fishing to fireworks

The Town of Indian Lake held its Independence Day celebration Saturday, July 6, lucking out with a warm and mostly sunny day. The busy day began with a Kids' Fishing Derby at Byron Park on Adirondack Lake. After the fishing derby many of the children headed over to the fish and game club's shooting range on Chain Lakes Rd., where they were introduced to target shooting and gun safety. While that was taking place in Indian Lake, over in Blue Mt. Lake the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts was holding its annual fundraising auction. A parade down the main street to Byron Park was themed "Summer Fun - Adirondack Style" and had many floats, classic cars and tractors and groups marching. Awards went to: Best Float, Cub Scout Pack 92; Best Dressed Tractor, first place Ernie Pollman; and Best Dressed Tractor, second place Cindy Corrow. The grand finale was - of course - a great, loud, colorful display of fireworks over Lake Adirondack that began shortly after dark and lasted about a half an hour. (Photos/Pete Klein)
