SABAEL - A Frankfort man died Saturday afternoon, July 6, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on State Route 30 in the Town of Indian Lake, 3.8 miles south of the intersection with Rt. 28 and half a mile south of Birch Hills Drive.

Corey J. Scialdo, 44, was operating a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound, with a female passenger shortly before 4:25 p.m., when, while attempting to negotiate a curve, the motorcycle overturned and continued into guide rails on the east shoulder of the road.

Hamilton County Coroner Donald Townsend pronounced Scialdo dead at the scene. His body was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville for an autopsy.

His female passenger, Anna M. Petronio, 33,  sustained injuries and was transported by Indian Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps to the Town of Johnsburg, then airlifted by a Mercy Flight helicopter to Albany Medical Center.

There were six witnesses to the accident. Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Deputy Corey Hutchins is investigating. Sheriff Karl Abrams said Friday, July 12, that speeding, alcohol and/or drugs did not play a role in the accident; and according to witnesses no animals were involved either. That leaves driver inexperience, he said, although Scialdo had been operating motorcycles for almost two years.

Abrams speculated that perhaps Petronio shifted her weight or leaned too far into the curve, causing the bike to fall over. As of Friday she was not yet well enough to be interviewed by police.
