BIG MOOSE--The annual Big Moose Community Chapel Bazaar will take place rain or shine Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the chapel five miles west of Eagle Bay on Big Moose Road.
Family entertainer Fritz Henry will perform two free shows, at 10:45 a.m. and noon, on the lakeside behind the chapel. Henry's fun and interactive performances have entertained children of all ages in and around the Adirondacks for many years. His two sets will include classic children's songs as well as sing-along originals and folk and pop classics.
The chapel is celebrating 82 years of worship in the Adirondacks. The bazaar is known for unique Adirondack and holiday crafts, "moosey" items of all sorts and aromatic balsam pillows created at the Balsam Bee held a week before the bazaar. The balsam pillows feature loon, moose, hummingbird, pine cone, and chapel designs and sell out quickly.
"Pines Among the Stars," a queen-size quilt made and hand-quilted by the local Pointed Pine Quilters, will be raffled at the bazaar. Tickets may be purchased the day of the bazaar or at the chapel between Sunday services.
The bazaar has something for everyone: chapel postage stamps, a bake sale featuring homemade fruit pies, silent and Chinese auctions, a Christmas table, a plant booth, chapel items and one-of-a-kind Big Moose clothing for children and adults.
Fun and games for children of all ages, including toddlers, will be held on the lakeside lawn behind the chapel with lots of prizes. Guided party barge tours of Big Moose Lake (weather permitting) will leave regularly from the chapel's dock, with prices for adults and children under age 12.
