Police Report -- 08/06/2014

Friday, Aug. 1, about 10:59 a.m.: State Police and Long Lake Rescue Squad responded to a report of an unattended death at a home in the Town of Long Lake. Sandra M. Bateman, 68, was found unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

Police say preliminary investigation shows the death appears to be consistent with suicide by overdose. Hamilton County Coroner Virginia Jennings authorized removal of the body by Miller Funeral Home, Indian Lake, to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, where an autopsy was conducted Aug. 2. A report will not be released until toxicology testing is complete.

Saturday, Aug. 2, 3:33 a.m.: Steven Rajca, 24, Northville, was stopped by State Police for speeding in the Town of Wells. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than .08 percent - two priors, a Class D felony; and DWI - first offense, a Class U misdemeanor.

Saturday, Aug. 2, 10:35 p.m.: Stephen Gagne, 57, Indian Lake, has been charged with DWI - first offense. State Police made the arrest on Rt. 9 in the Town of Schroon.

Sunday, Aug. 3, 2:46 a.m.: Mitchell R. Edwards, 26, Wells, was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of more than .08 percent - first offense, and DWI - first offense, both Class U misdemeanors; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and speeding. State Police arrested him on Woods Hollow Road in the Town of Mayfield.
