LAKE PLEASANT - Thirty members and guests enjoyed a fun day of golfing when the Lake Pleasant Ladies Golf League held its fifth annual Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament July 31.
The emphasis of the day was the education of each participant on the importance of early detection in the successful treatment of breast cancer and the continuing need for research.
The following winners were recognized at a luncheon in the Veterans of Foreign Wars building following the game:
Low Gross: Flight A - first Christy Wilt, second Jan Allison, third Nancy Wheeler; Flight B - Mary Ellen Price, Lillian Nilsen, Jerry Rogers.
Low Net: Flight A - Judy Kelsch, Gail Bracken, Denise Christ; Flight B - Karen Strevy, Deb Eveland, Mary Kexel.
Longest drive in fairway on hole 3: Flight A - Denise Christ; Flight B - Nina Waller.
The prize for closest to the pin on hole 4 was a golf club donated by Titleist, awarded to Christy Wilt.
The prizes for getting on the green in one shot on hole 4 were golf balls donated by Titleist, awarded to Christy Wilt, Judy Kelsch and Mary Lou Brewer.
Closest to the pin on the second shot on hole 8 in Flight A was Nancy Wheeler. In flight B the winner was Deb Eveland.
Lowest total putts: Flight A - Christy Wilt; Flight B - Mary Ellen Price.
Rally golf balls were given to Judy Kelsch, Charlotte Minich, Denise Christ, Jan Allison and Christy Wilt for birdies. Jerry Rogers received a Rally golf ball for a chip in.
The event raised almost $800 dollars for Rally for the Cure including hole sponsorship, the raffle of a quilt donated by Ruth Baker and a lamp donated by Ray Bryce. Hole sponsorships were in memory of Catherine DeGager and John DeGager by Coreen VanDerWoude and in honor or Suzanne Risely Merritt by Karen Risley and In Friendship of Judee Lauria by Pam Pooler.
The Ladies League thanks the following community enterprises that contributed door prizes to the event: Casey’s Corner, Charlie Johns, Country Accents, Lake Pleasant Golf Course, Lake Pleasant Marina, Logan’s Bar and Grill, Melody Lodge, Mountain Market, Mountain Memories, NBT Bank, Oxbow Inn, Speculator Department Store, Speculator Spirits, Sunrise Diner, The Inn at Speculator, VFW and Waterford Designs.
Many people assisted with arrangements. The organizing committee included Mary Lou Brewer, Gail Callahan, Denise Christ, Jane Christ, Pat McGuire, Mary Ellen Price, Karen Risley, Kathy Schimoler and Nancy Wheeler. Scorekeepers were Tom Callahan, John Wheeler and Herb Brewer.
Bob Allison was the photographer and Tom Callahan helped with arrangements. Al Price served as liaison with the VFW and Mike O’Rourke assisted with the arrangements at the golf course.
