INDIAN LAKE - The newest member of the Indian Lake Central School District Board of Education, Leonard Franco, has resigned because he is moving out of the district.

The board accepted his resignation Tuesday, Oct. 15, and agreed to ask around town to see if anyone might be willing to fill the vacancy.

Franco ran unopposed on the May ballot for a five-year term to fill the seat held by outgoing board member Patrick Mahoney. The board is hoping someone will step forward to fill the vacancy at least until the May 2014 vote.

BUILDING PROJECTS

Superintendent Mark Brand reported the school's application to the North Country Regional Economic Development Council for grant funding to purchase and install a wood pellet boiler to heat the school has received "priority status."

Whether or not the school will be successful in this round of funding should be known sometime in November.

Brand said in anticipation of possible funding, he suggested and the board agreed to invite Bernier, Carr & Associates, Watertown, to their next meeting to discuss this project and other possible building projects, such as the long-desired generator and a possible propane heater as backup to help heat the building.

In other business, Craig Seaman was approved as boys' varsity basketball coach and Andrew Snide as boys' modified basketball coach.

The ILCS BOE will next meet Tuesday, Nov. 19, starting at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
